Admission criteria

Your child must be 5 years of age by December 31st of its kindergarten school year to be registered.

Francophone schools welcome students who are eligible for French-language education in accordance with Section 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Alberta School Act and district policies.

A student is eligible to receive instruction in French if he or she meets at least one of the following conditions:

  1. French is the first language learned and still understood by one or the other parent
  2. At least one parent has received her/his elementary education in French in Canada*
  3. A brother/or sister has received or is receiving primary or secondary education in French first language in Canada*

* This is instruction in schools where French is taught as a first language, not as a second language (as taught in French immersion schools).


How to register

Step 1: Complete The Student Registration Form

  1. OPTION 1 - an instructional video is available here. You will need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader. It is available free at www.get.adobe.com/reader 
    Save the form on your computer, fill out the form and sign it electronically. Save the document again and email it back to the school. A list of the schools' email addresses can be found on the last page of the form.

    Fill out the form electronically, print it and sign it. Scan the document or take photos and email them to the school. A list of the schools' email addresses can be found on the last page of the form.

  3. OPTION 3 - Print the registration form, complete it and sign it. Mail the registration form to the following address:

STEP 2 - Whichever option you choose, you will need to provide proof of the child's identity. This document can be scanned or sent in photo format or by mail depending on the option you have chosen.

The following documents can be used for proof of the child's identity:

Birth certificate from a Canadian province
Certificate of Canadian citizenship
Canadian passport
Permanent resident document
Study visa
Other Immigration Canada Document

* In some cases, you may have to provide additional documentation.

There is no deadline for registrations. However, registrations received after June 20 cannot be guaranteed a bus stop within the distance standards. An existing stop could be assigned until the end of September.

School fees

Consult the school’s web site for the school fees that apply. Please note that the Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord offers free transportation to its families.

Online payment - school cash

Our schools now offer the School Cash Online option which allows you to pay for school activities online such as field trips, club fees, physical education fees and promotional clothing.
You must first register by clicking on the following link (it takes less than five minutes). After registering your child, you will be able to see the school fees to be paid online. You can also choose the option to be notified by email when your child has a new school activity so that you don't miss the deadline.

*In the spirit of Section 23, other categories of parents may be allowed to enrol their children in a francophone school while respecting the mission of francophone education. The final decision is made at the school board level.

Francophone schools offer full-time kindergarten and free transportation. Kindergarten students must be 5 years of age by December 31st of their kindergarten school year.
