Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord (Greater North Central Francophone ER No.2) is the largest francophone school district in Alberta with more than 2,400 students attending our 14 francophone – catholic or public – schools in Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Jasper, Legal, Red Deer, St. Albert and Wainwright.

Fully funded by the Alberta Government, our schools offer academic programs from kindergarten to grade 12 in accordance with the curriculum set out by Alberta Education. Instruction is offered entirely in French, except for English Language Arts commencing in grade 3. Studies show that it is crucial for students to master their first language before learning a second one. Our schools also have a wide range of services including special needs, literacy, English as a second language and francisation. Here are some of our advantages:

  • Grade 12 students are fully bilingual and can pursue post-secondary studies and work in either official language
  • Our French-speaking students embrace many cultures
  • Small, clean and safe school
  • Responsive, passionate and committed staff
  • Free bus transportation within the designated zone
  • Full-time kindergarten program
  • On-site preschool

Francophone schools are for students whose parents’ first language is French and who want their child to learn French as a first language in a climate favourable to the development of the child’s full capacity, intellectually, physically, personally, spiritually and socially. It is the most effective way for a francophone child living in a minority setting to become bilingual.
